He studied voice at the Niccolò Paganini Conservatory in Genoa with soprano Norma Palacios, then continued his studies with Vittorio Terranova. In 2002, he made his debut at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto in Verdi's 'Macbeth', Rossini's 'Petite messe solennelle', and Puccini's 'Messa di Gloria'. In 2005, he sang at the opening of that year's Rossini Opera Festival, performing in 'Bianca e Falliero'. Until 2009, he primarily performed bel canto repertoire: Bellini's 'La sonnambula', Mozart's 'Così fan tutte', Donizetti's 'Anna Bolena', and Rossini's 'Il barbiere di Siviglia'. From 2009 onward, he gradually moved away from bel canto and turned to romantic operatic repertoire: Verdi's 'I Lombardi alla prima crociata', 'Simon Boccanegra', 'Rigoletto', 'Un ballo in maschera', 'Il trovatore', and 'I due Foscari', as well as Massenet's 'Werther'. He made his debut at La Scala in Poulenc's 'Dialogues des Carmélites', later performing roles in Verdi's 'Otello', Mozart's 'Idomeneo' and 'Don Giovanni', Donizetti's 'Maria Stuarda', R. Strauss's 'Der Rosenkavalier', and Verdi's 'Giovanna d'Arco'. He has worked with the most renowned conductors in the world, including Daniele Gatti, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Muti, Gianandrea Noseda, and Riccardo Chailly. In addition to La Scala, he performs at the Rome Opera, Vienna State Opera, London's Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and New York's Metropolitan Opera.
